Candidates for Liposuction

The best candidates for liposuction at our practice are patients with a healthy diet and consistent exercise regimen who have localized areas of stubborn fatty deposits.

The Procedure

After delivering a local or general anesthetic, the surgeon makes several small incisions near the problem areas on the body. The incisions are generally small enough that scarring isn’t a problem. The surgeon then places a thin, round suctioning device called a cannula through the incision to remove fat cells.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a surgical technique that involves the injection of a large amount of fluid into targeted areas of fatty tissue prior to the removal of fat cells. The injections consist of a solution made from a mixture of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that helps numb the area and epinephrine is a solution that constricts capillaries and helps to reduce blood loss during the liposuction procedure. The tumescent method may produce less post-operative discomfort than traditional liposuction.

Recovery
